Necessity is the mother of inventions, and this is no exeception. The idea of artfair.us started when I first started doing events, and the only way to learn about the art fair world was the school of hard knocks, trial and error, and first hand experience. Fortunately, I have frequent amnesia and forget how not so great an art event was, allowing me to carry on. Art fairs can be devasting to one's mental health, and I have met many who have given up on them. The people who I wanted to talk to and learn from weren't there when I first started, and all I found were outdated websites and forums. Many of the content and art fair review were 5 years, 10 years, 20 years old.
The site has a subscription to view many of the articles and art fair reviews. It's to ensure that enough time and resources are spent to maintain and grow a source, a pool of knowledge. I'm one of those absurdly busy artist who is constantly working on new work, traveling across the States, and looking at Zapplication applications. With what I've learned and the conversations with all the people who I meet along the way, a collective body of content is accessible to many now.
